Installing MS Project, Visio, and Similar Software
Approved CMIS, Engineering, Nursing and Business students how to install MS Project, Visio, or similar software from Microsoft.
Overview
SIUE students in approved programs (CMIS, Engineering, Nursing, and Business) can access specialized Microsoft software like Project and Visio at no additional cost through the Azure Dev Tools for Teaching portal.
Before You Begin
- Ensure you have a valid SIUE e-ID and password
- Verify you are enrolled in an eligible program (CMIS, Engineering, Nursing, or Business)
- Make sure you have adequate disk space (at least 4GB free) for the installation
Accessing the Software Portal
- Sign in to the Azure Dev Tools for Teaching portal using your SIUE email address and password at: https://azureforeducation.microsoft.com/devtools
Downloading the Software
- Click on Learning Resources > Software
- Select the software you need (e.g., "Project Professional 20xx" or "Visio Professional 20xx")
- Click the Download button
- Click View Key and copy the product key for later use during installation
Installing the Software
- Locate the downloaded .iso file in your Downloads folder
- Double-click the .iso file to mount it as a virtual DVD drive
- Open the mounted DVD drive location in File Explorer
- Double-click the Setup file to begin installation
- Wait for the installation to complete
Activating the Software
- Launch the installed program (Project, Visio, etc.) from the Start menu
- When prompted for activation, paste the product key you copied earlier
- Follow any additional on-screen instructions to complete activation
Troubleshooting Common Issues
ISO File Won't Mount
If you're having trouble mounting the ISO file:
- For Windows 8 and later: Right-click the ISO file and select "Mount"
- For Mac users: Double-click the ISO file to mount, or use Disk Utility
Product Key Issues
If your product key isn't working:
- Ensure you're copying the entire key without extra spaces
- Verify you're using the key for the correct product version
- Try manually typing the key, paying attention to similar characters (0/O, 1/I, etc.)
