Previewing Your Survey

Before Student Evaluations of Teaching (SETs) become available to students, instructors can preview exactly how the survey will appear to students.

How to Access Survey Preview

1. Log into Anthology Course Evaluations
2. Click the Surveys tab in the main navigation
3. Select My Course Surveys from the drop down menu
4. Locate your course in the list
5. Click Preview Survey for the course you want to review

What to Check During Preview

Survey Content Review

When previewing your survey, verify:

• Course information is correct (course number, title, section)
• Instructor name(s) are spelled correctly
• All required questions are included
• Department-specific questions appear as expected
• Question order flows logically for students

Special Attention for Complex Courses

Pay particular attention to the preview if your course involves:

• Multiple instructors or team teaching
• Interdisciplinary or honors program components
• Modified templates with custom questions
• Cross-listed courses with multiple departments

Monitoring Completion Rates

Real-Time Progress Tracking

During the evaluation period, instructors can monitor:

• Number of responses received (not individual student identities)
• Completion percentage based on enrolled students
• Progress trends over the evaluation period

What You Can and Cannot See

Available Information:

• Total number of completed evaluations
• Percentage completion rate
• General progress statistics

Protected Information:

• Individual student names who have or haven't completed evaluations
• Specific response content until after grades are submitted
• Partial responses from individual students

Using Preview Information

Before Surveys Go Live

If you notice issues during preview:

1. Contact eval@siue.edu immediately
2. Describe the specific problems you identified
3. Provide correct information if the data is wrong
4. Allow time for corrections before the survey goes live

Common Issues to Watch For

• Incorrect course information (wrong section number, title)
• Missing questions that should be included
• Extra questions that don't apply to your course
• Instructor name errors or omissions
• Template problems for specialized courses

Encouraging Student Participation

Using Completion Data

Monitor completion rates to:

• Determine if additional encouragement is needed
• Plan in-class time for evaluation completion
• Send additional reminders if response rates are low
• Adjust timing for future evaluation periods

Best Practices for Increasing Response Rates

• Announce the evaluation period in class
• Explain how feedback helps improve the course
• Provide class time for completion when possible
• Remind students that evaluations are anonymous
• Emphasize that grades are submitted before results are visible

Technical Support

Preview Access Issues

If you cannot access the preview function:

• Verify you're logged in with the correct credentials
• Check that your evaluation has been set up by ITS
• Clear your browser cache and try again
• Contact ITS if problems persist

Completion Monitoring Problems

If completion data seems incorrect:

• Allow time for system updates (data may be delayed)
• Verify enrollment numbers with your registrar
• Contact eval@siue.edu for assistance
