ITS Networking (Mac) - How to Connect to Eduroam Wireless Network
This guide walks you through connecting your Mac device to SIUE's eduroam wireless network. The eduroam network provides secure internet access across campus and at participating institutions worldwide.
Step 1: Connect to Welcome to SIUE Network
- Click the WiFi icon in your menu bar, or open System Preferences > Network
- Select "Welcome to SIUE" from the available networks
- Click Apply to connect
Step 2: Access the Configuration Portal
After connecting to "Welcome to SIUE," a browser window should automatically open. If it doesn't:
- Open your web browser
- Type
wifisetup.siue.edu
in the address bar and press Enter
The WiFi configuration page will display with eduroam setup options.
Step 3: Download the Configuration Tool
- Click Configure Your Device to use eduroam
- The system will detect your Mac operating system automatically
- Click JoinNow to download the SecureW2 configuration tool
- If prompted by your browser, click OK to confirm the download
Step 4: Run the Configuration Tool
- Locate the downloaded SecureW2 JoinNow file in your Downloads folder
- Double-click the SecureW2 icon to launch the application
- If macOS displays a security prompt, click Open to proceed
Step 5: Enter Your Credentials
When the authentication window appears:
- In the "Username" field, enter your complete SIUE email address (e.g., jsmith@siue.edu)
- In the "Password" field, enter your SIUE account password
- Click Next to continue
Step 6: Install the Profile
The configuration tool will tell you that you will need to install a profile.
- The profile installation screen should pop up automatically.
- If it doesn't, go to the Mac System Preferences > Profiles
- Click the Install button to install the profile.
- Click Install to confirm on the following screen.
- You may be asked to enter your Mac's admin password, if prompted go ahead and enter them and click Allow.
Step 7: Complete the Installation
- When prompted that "SecureW2 JoinNow would like to make changes," enter your Mac's administrator password
- Click OK to allow the configuration
- If asked to allow SecureW2 JoinNow to use confidential information in your keychain, click Always Allow (not just "Allow")
Your Mac will automatically connect to the eduroam network. You should see "eduroam" appear as your connected network in the WiFi menu.
Verification
To confirm your connection:
- Check that the WiFi icon shows a strong signal
- Open a web browser and navigate to any website to test internet connectivity
- Look for "eduroam" in your WiFi menu bar to confirm you're connected to the correct network
Troubleshooting
Connection Issues
If you cannot connect to eduroam:
- Verify you entered your complete email address (not just username)
- Ensure your SIUE password is correct
- Try forgetting the eduroam network in System Preferences > Network > WiFi > Advanced and repeat the setup process
SecureW2 Download Problems
If the SecureW2 tool doesn't download:
- Check that you're properly connected to "Welcome to SIUE"
- Try using a different web browser
- Temporarily disable browser extensions that might block downloads
Additional Information
Once configured, your Mac will automatically connect to eduroam whenever you're on campus or at other participating eduroam institutions worldwide. You won't need to repeat this setup process unless you change your SIUE password or reset your network settings.
