How do I connect my Android device to eduroam?

The eduroam wireless network provides secure internet access for SIUE students, faculty, and staff. This guide will walk you through connecting your Android device using the SecureW2 JoinNow app.

Note: Android interfaces may vary between device manufacturers and OS versions. The steps below represent the most common experience.

Step 1: Connect to Welcome Network

  1. Go to your device's Wi-Fi settings
  2. Select the "Welcome to SIUE" network to connect
  3. Open Chrome browser (you should be redirected automatically to the setup page)
  4. If not redirected automatically, navigate to wifisetup.siue.edu
  5. Click any security prompts such as "Continue," "Advance," or "Trust" to proceed

Step 2: Access Configuration Page

  1. On the wireless setup page, click the link "configure your device to use eduroam"

  3. Download the recommended SecureW2 JoinNow app

Step 3: Install SecureW2 JoinNow App

  1. You'll be directed to the Google Play Store
  2. Click "Install" to download and install the SecureW2 JoinNow app
  3. Wait for installation to complete
  4. Open the app when installation finishes

Step 4: Configure Location Permissions

When you launch JoinNow, you should be prompted for location permissions.

  1. Select "While using the app" or "Only this time" to grant necessary permissions
  2. These permissions are required for the app to detect and configure wireless networks

Step 5: Enter Your SIUE Credentials

  1. In the "Username" field, enter your complete SIUE email address (e.g., myeid@siue.edu)
  2. In the "Password" field, enter your eID password
  3. Tap to continue

Step 6: Complete Setup

  1. When prompted "Allow suggested Wi-Fi networks?" tap "Allow"

    The app will automatically configure and connect to eduroam
  2. When you see "Nice! You have successfully connected to eduroam," click "Next"
  3. Your Android device is now configured for eduroam

   

Troubleshooting

If you experience connection issues:

  • Verify your e-ID credentials are correct
  • Try forgetting and re-adding the eduroam network in your Wi-Fi settings
  • Restart your device and attempt the setup process again

How do I connect my iPhone or iPad to eduroam?

Eduroam is a secure wireless network available to SIUE students, faculty, and staff. This guide will help you connect your iOS device (iPhone or iPad) to eduroam using SIUE's automated configuration system.

Step-by-Step Setup Instructions

Step 1: Access the Configuration Tool

  1. Connect to the Welcome to SIUE Wi-Fi network on your device, or use your cellular data connection.
  2. Open the Safari browser on your iOS device.
  3. Navigate to wifisetup.siue.edu in the address bar.
  4. If prompted, select Continue to proceed with the redirect to the eduroam configuration page.

Step 2: Configure Your Device

  1. On the eduroam configuration page, tap Configure Your Device to use eduroam.
  2. The system will detect your iOS device and display a configuration form.
  3. Enter your credentials:
    • Username: Your complete SIUE email address (e.g., jsmith@siue.edu)
    • Password: Your SIUE e-ID password
  4. Tap Join Now to continue.
  5. Tap Allow to download the configuration to your phone.
  6. Select iPhone from the list.
  7. Tap Close when the "Profile Downloaded" window appears.

  2. Select Profile Downloaded
  3. Select Install in the top-corner

Step 1: Connect to Welcome to SIUE Network

  1. Click the WiFi icon in your system tray (bottom-right corner of your screen)
  2. Select "Welcome to SIUE" from the list of available networks
  3. Click Connect
  4. If prompted, click Yes to allow your PC to be discoverable on the network

Alternative method: Go to Settings > Network & Internet > WiFi, then select "Welcome to SIUE" from the available networks.

Step 2: Access the Configuration Portal

After connecting to "Welcome to SIUE," a browser window should automatically open. If it doesn't:

  1. Open your web browser (Chrome, Edge, or Firefox)
  2. Type wifisetup.siue.edu in the address bar and press Enter

The WiFi configuration page will display with eduroam setup options.

Step 3: Download the Configuration Tool

  1. Click Configure Your Device to use eduroam
  2. The system will detect your Windows operating system automatically
  3. Click JoinNow to download the SecureW2 configuration tool
  4. When your browser prompts about the download, click Save

  1. Navigate to your Downloads folder or click the downloaded file in your browser
  2. Double-click the SecureW2_JoinNow.exe file to launch the application
  3. If Windows displays a security warning, click Run or Yes to proceed
  4. If Windows SmartScreen appears, click More info, then click Run anyway

Step 5: Enter Your Credentials

When the SecureW2 JoinNow window opens:

  1. In the "Username" field, enter your complete SIUE email address (e.g., jsmith@siue.edu)
  2. In the "Password" field, enter your SIUE account password
  3. Click Next or Install to continue

Step 6: Complete the Installation

  1. If prompted by User Account Control (UAC), click Yes to allow the program to make changes
  2. The tool will automatically install the necessary certificates and configure your WiFi settings
  3. Wait for the "Configuration successful" or similar completion message
  4. Click Finish or Close when the setup is complete

How do I connect my Mac to eduroam?

Step 1: Connect to Welcome to SIUE Network

  1. Click the WiFi icon in your menu bar, or open System Preferences > Network
  2. Select "Welcome to SIUE" from the available networks
  3. Click Apply to connect

Step 2: Access the Configuration Portal

After connecting to "Welcome to SIUE," a browser window should automatically open. If it doesn't:

  1. Open your web browser

  2. Click OK to allow the configuration
  3. If asked to allow SecureW2 JoinNow to use confidential information in your keychain, click Always Allow (not just "Allow")

Your Mac will automatically connect to the eduroam network. You should see "eduroam" appear as your connected network in the WiFi menu.

Verification

To confirm your connection:

  • Check that the WiFi icon shows a strong signal
  • Open a web browser and navigate to any website to test internet connectivity
  • Look for "eduroam" in your WiFi menu bar to confirm you're connected to the correct network
