Chromebook - Connect to eduroam Wireless Network
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for connecting a Chromebook to the eduroam wireless network using the SecureW2 configuration tool and ONC file setup.
Follow these steps to connect your Chromebook to the eduroam wireless network at SIUE.
Prerequisites
- Active SIUE email account and password
- Chromebook with Chrome browser
- Initial connection to "Welcome to SIUE" network
Connection Steps
- Connect your Chromebook to the "Welcome to SIUE" wireless network.
- Open the Chrome browser and navigate to
http://wifisetup.siue.edu
- If prompted to install the Chrome extension, ensure that "Chrome Web Store" is selected in the dropdown menu, then click "Install".
- Click the "Add to Chrome" button, then click the "Add extension" button.
- Return to the browser tab. You should now see a prompt to enter your credentials. Log in using your SIUE email address and password.
- After logging in, another browser tab will open. Click on that new tab.
- At the bottom of the page in the "Import ONC File" section, click the Choose File button.
- Click on the Downloads folder, then select the
SecureW2.onc
file and click the "Open" button. - The page may appear unchanged after importing - this is normal and expected behavior.
- Click on the Wi-Fi icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.
- Click on the arrow next to your currently connected Wi-Fi network.
- Select "eduroam" from the list of available networks.
- On the eduroam properties page, do not modify any settings. Simply click the Connect button.
- After a few moments, you should be successfully connected to the eduroam network.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues during the connection process:
- Ensure you are using your complete SIUE email address (including @siue.edu)
- Verify your password is correct
- Try refreshing the wifisetup page if the extension installation fails
- Make sure you have selected the correct ONC file from Downloads
