Platform Transition Overview
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) has officially transitioned from Zoom to Microsoft Teams as our primary collaboration and video conferencing platform. This change aligns with our commitment to providing integrated, secure, and feature-rich communication tools for faculty, staff, and students.
Microsoft Teams as Primary Platform
Microsoft Teams offers comprehensive collaboration features that extend beyond video conferencing, including:
- High-quality video and audio conferencing
- Real-time chat and messaging
- File sharing and collaboration
- Screen sharing and whiteboarding
- Integration with Office 365 applications
- Recording capabilities
- Breakout rooms for group activities
- Calendar integration
Getting Started with Teams
Teams is available to all SIUE faculty, staff, and students through our Office 365 subscription. To access Teams:
- Visit teams.microsoft.com or download the desktop/mobile app
- Sign in with your SIUE credentials (e-ID@siue.edu)
- Explore the interface and available features
- Schedule meetings through Outlook or directly in Teams
Limited Zoom Support
While Teams is our recommended platform, ITS recognizes that some departments may have existing Zoom licenses or specific needs that require Zoom usage. We continue to provide limited support for Zoom in the following circumstances:
- Departments with current paid Zoom licenses
- Specific use cases where Zoom functionality is required
- Transitional support during the migration period

Important Note: ITS support for Zoom is limited to basic technical issues. For advanced Zoom features or account management, please refer to Zoom's support resources or contact your department's license administrator.

Common Migration Questions
