Blackboard Ultra (Faculty) Accessibility/Ally: Interpret Accessibility Score
Understanding the Accessibility Score
Blackboard Ally provides an accessibility score for each piece of content uploaded to your Blackboard Ultra course. This score helps you quickly identify areas where improvements can be made to ensure your course materials are accessible to all students.
Accessibility Indicators
The accessibility score is represented by a color-coded indicator. Here's what each color means:
- Dark Green (Perfect): The content is 100% accessible. No improvements are needed.
- Light Green (High): The content is 67-99% accessible and requires minor improvements.
- Orange (Medium): The content is 34-66% accessible, and improvements must be made.
- Red (Low): The content has significant accessibility issues and requires immediate attention.
Interpreting the Score
To view the accessibility score and receive guidance on how to improve the accessibility of your content, follow these steps:
- Navigate to the course content area in your Blackboard Ultra course.
- Locate the content item you want to check.
- Click on the accessibility indicator next to the content item. This will open the Ally Accessibility Report.

The Ally Accessibility Report
The Ally Accessibility Report provides a detailed breakdown of the accessibility issues identified in your content. It offers suggestions and step-by-step instructions on how to remediate these issues.
The report typically includes the following:
- Overall accessibility score.
- A list of specific accessibility issues.
- Guidance on how to fix each issue.
- The option to download an alternative format of the content (e.g., tagged PDF, audio version).

Using the Accessibility Score to Prioritize Remediation
Focus on addressing content with "Red" (Low Accessibility) indicators first. Then, work your way up through "Orange" (Moderately Accessible) and "Light Green" (Slightly Accessible) content. The goal is to make all course content as accessible as possible.
