Blackboard Ultra (Faculty): Assignments - Allowing Multiple Submissions

This article explains how faculty can allow students to submit assignments multiple times in Blackboard Ultra.

Allowing Multiple Submissions for Assignments

Instructors can allow students to submit assignments more than once in Blackboard Ultra. This can be useful for drafts, revisions, or other situations where multiple attempts are desired.

Steps to Allow Multiple Submissions:

  1. Navigate to your course in Blackboard Ultra.
  2. Locate the assignment you want to modify.
  3. Click the assignment title to open it.
  4. In the assignment details, look for the "Content and Settings" section.
  5. Click the gear icon next to Assignment Settings.

  6. Under Grading & Submissions, click the "Attempts allowed" drop-down menu. Select the number of attempts allowed for the assignment.
  7. Choose how you want to grade the attempts:
    • First Attempt: The grade from the first attempt is used.
    • Last Attempt: The grade from the most recent attempt is used.
    • All Attempts:  The grades from all attempts are considered. Additional options for All Attempts include:
      • Lowest Grade: The lowest grade achieved across all attempts is used.
      • Highest Grade: The highest grade achieved across all attempts is used.
      • Average Grade: The average of all attempt grades is used.

  1. Click "Save".

Viewing and Grading Multiple Submissions:

When students submit multiple attempts, you can view and grade each attempt individually in the Gradebook.

  1. Go to the Gradebook.
  2. Click the assignment for which you want to view submissions.
  3. For each student, you will see an indicator showing the number of attempts submitted.
