Blackboard Ultra (Faculty) - Assignments: Clear, Ignore, and Allow Additional Attempt
Clearing an Assignment Attempt
Clearing an attempt removes the submission entirely. This should be done with caution, as all submitted files and grading information for that attempt will be permanently deleted. Clearing an attempt is generally only recommended when a student has submitted the wrong file or needs to completely restart an assignment.
- From the Gradebook, locate the student's assignment.
- Click the grade assigned to that student.
- Select View Submission.

- In the upper-right corner, click the ellipsis (three dots).

- Select Delete Attempt. A warning message will appear.
- Confirm that you want to delete the attempt.
Ignoring an Assignment Attempt
Ignoring an attempt allows you to disregard a particular submission without deleting it. This can be useful if a student submitted a practice attempt or if you want to focus on a later submission.
- From the Gradebook, locate the student's assignment.
- Click the grade assigned to that student.
- Select View Submission.
- In the upper-right corner, click the ellipsis (three dots).
- Select Exclude Attempt. The attempt will now be marked as excluded.
To revert this, follow the same steps and select Undo Exclude Attempt.
Allowing an Additional Assignment Attempt
Allowing an additional attempt grants a student the ability to submit the assignment again, even if the original attempt limit has been reached. This is useful for students who had technical difficulties or need to revise their work.
- From the Gradebook, locate the student.
- Click the student's name.
- Locate the assignment.
- Click the ellipsis (three dots) next to the grade.

- Click "Add or edit exceptions".

- In "Attempts allowed", select the drop-down to choose the updated number of attempts for that student.
- Click Save.
