Blackboard Ultra (Faculty) - Creating and Editing Content Folders

This article explains how to create and edit content folders within the Blackboard Ultra course content to organize course materials.

Creating a Content Folder

Content folders allow you to organize your course content within Blackboard Ultra. To create a new content folder:

  1. Navigate to your course in Blackboard Ultra.
  2. In the Course Content area, hover your mouse pointer over where you would like to place the new folder. Click the plus sign.
  3. Select Create from the menu.

  4. In the Create Item panel, select Folder.
  5. In the New Folder panel:
    • Enter a Name for the folder.
    • Optionally, add a Description.
    • Choose the folder's visibility:
      • Visible to students: Students can see and access the folder and its contents.
      • Hidden from students: Students cannot see the folder or its contents until you make it visible.
  6. Click Save.

The new content folder will now appear in the Course Content.

Editing a Content Folder

You can edit existing content folders to change their name, description, or visibility.

  1. Navigate to your course in Blackboard Ultra.
  2. In Course Content, locate the folder you want to edit.
  3. Hover over the folder name, then click the three dots to the right of the folder name.
  4. Select Edit.

  5. In the Edit Folder panel:
    • Modify the Name.
    • Modify the Description.
    • Change the folder's visibility:
      • Visible to students: Students can see and access the folder and its contents.
      • Hidden from students: Students cannot see the folder or its contents until you make it visible.
  6. Click Save.

The folder will be updated with your changes.

Adding Content to a Folder

Once you've created a folder, you can add content to it.

  1. Open the content folder by clicking on its name in Course Content.
  2. Hover your mouse pointer over where you would like to place the new item. Click the plus sign.
  3. Select Create from the menu.

  4. Choose the type of content you want to add (i.e., Document, Assignment, Link, etc.).
  5. Follow the prompts to create and configure the content item.
