Blackboard Ultra (Students) - Course Availability: When Will My Course Be Available?
This article explains when students can expect to see their courses in Blackboard Ultra. It details the factors that determine course availability and provides guidance if a course is not visible.
Course Availability in Blackboard Ultra
Course availability in Blackboard Ultra is determined by the course instructor. By default, courses are set to "Private" which means students cannot see them until the instructor makes them available.
Factors Affecting Course Availability
- Instructor's Decision: Instructors control when a course becomes available to students. Some instructors may choose to open the course well before the semester begins, while others might wait until the first day of classes.
- Course Start Date: Even if an instructor makes a course available, it may not appear to students until the official start date of the course, as defined in Banner.
- Instructor Customization: Instructors may customize the course visibility settings for individual students or groups.
What to Do If Your Course Is Not Visible
If a course is not appearing in your Blackboard Ultra course list, consider the following:
- Check the Course Start Date: Verify the official start date of the course. If the date has not yet arrived, the course might not be visible even if the instructor has made it available.
- Contact Your Instructor: If the course start date has passed and you still cannot see the course, contact your instructor directly. They can confirm the course's availability status and assist you further.
- Allow Sufficient Time: Allow up to 24 hours after enrollment for the course to appear in Blackboard.
Important Considerations
- Course Merges: If your instructor is teaching multiple sections of the same course, they may merge those sections into a single Blackboard Ultra course. This means you will only see one course listed even though you are enrolled in a specific section.
- Past Courses: Courses from previous semesters will eventually be hidden from your active course list. You can typically access past courses via the "Past Courses" filter option.
