Blackboard Ultra (Faculty) - Course Content: Replace a File
This article describes how to replace a file in Blackboard Ultra course content.
Replacing a File in Blackboard Ultra Course Content
Blackboard Ultra does not provide an option to overwrite an existing file directly. To update a file with a newer version, follow these steps:
- Navigate to your Blackboard Ultra course.
- Navigate to the Content tab
- In the Course Content area, locate the item with the file you want to replace.
- Click the Edit Content button at the top right corner of the page.

- Hover over the three dots (ellipsis) to the right of the item's name.

- Click the purple trash can in the menu at the top left corner of the file.
- Click the purple + on the dashed line above the deleted file location.

- Select File Upload from the types of content to add to the block.
- Browse your computer for the file to upload in the File Explorer or Finder window, and click Open.
- In the pop-up box, select one of the File Options.

- Click Save in the box.
- Click Save at the top right corner of the page.

The updated file is now in your item, replacing the older version. This will also remove the previous file from your course entirely.
Important Considerations
- File Names: Using a similar file name for the updated version can help students easily identify the updated file.
- Student Access: Students will automatically see the updated file if the item you edited is Visible to students. There is no need to notify them specifically, unless the content has changed drastically.
