Blackboard Ultra (Faculty) - Discussions: Grade a Discussion

This article explains how faculty can grade a Blackboard Ultra discussion.

Grading Discussion Participation

Blackboard Ultra allows instructors to assess student discussion work. There are two main ways to grade a discussion:

Method 1: Grading from a Discussion

  1. In a Blackboard Ultra course, Navigate to the Discussions tab.
  2. Locate and click on a discussion.
  3. Inside the discussion, click the Grades & Participation tab.

  4. Click anywhere on a row representing a student.
  5. Review the student's work.
  6. Click the Grade box.

  7. Enter a grade.
  8. Optional: To leave feedback for a student, click the Feedback button and enter text in the "Feedback for student" field. Once finished, Click Save.

  9. Optional: To immediately post a grade for an individual, click the ellipses button, and from the menu that appears, Click "Post". If you want to post grades at once, go to step 11.

  10. Click the Forward Arrow button to proceed to the next student.

  11. To post all grades at the same time, first, Click the BB Close button. Then locate and click the "Post all grades" button. In the popup that appears, Click the new Post All Grades button.

Method 2: Grading from the Gradebook

  1. In a Blackboard Ultra course, Navigate to the Gradebook tab.
  2. Locate the column representing the discussion. The column will be labeled with the discussion title.
  3. Click anywhere in a cell corresponding to a student.
  4. From the menu that appears, click View Submission.

  5. Review the student's work.
  6. Click the Grade box.

  7. Enter a grade.
  8. Optional: To leave feedback for a student, click the Feedback button and enter text in the "Feedback for student" field. Once finished, Click Save.

  9. To immediately post a grade for an individual, click the ellipses button, and from the menu that appears, Click "Post". If you want to post grades at once, go to step 11.

  10. Proceed to the next student.

  11. To post all grades at the same time, first, Click the BB Close button. Then locate and click the "Post all grades" button. In the popup that appears, Click the new Post All Grades button.
