Blackboard Ultra (Faculty) - Discussion Boards: Replying to a Discussion Post
This article provides instructions on how faculty can reply to a discussion post within Blackboard Ultra courses.
Replying to a Discussion Post
Faculty members can participate in course discussions by replying to existing discussion posts and responses. This allows for engagement with students and the facilitation of meaningful conversations.
Steps to Reply:
- Navigate to the course Discussion Board. This can be found in the course menu or in the Course Content area, depending on the course setup.
- Locate the discussion post you wish to reply to. Discussion posts are typically listed by title.
- Click on the discussion post title to open it.
- Read the existing replies within the post to understand the context of the conversation.
- Click the "Reply" button located beneath the post you wish to respond to. A text editor will appear.

- Type your reply in the text editor. You can use the editor to format your text, add attachments (if permitted by the discussion settings), and insert multimedia.
- Click "Save Draft" to save your reply as a draft. This allows you to return to it later and make further edits before posting.
- Click the "Submit" button to publish your reply to the discussion post. Your reply will now be visible to other participants in the discussion.

Best Practices:
- Be Respectful: Maintain a respectful and professional tone in your replies, even when disagreeing with others.
- Be Clear and Concise: Write clearly and concisely to ensure that your message is easily understood.
- Stay on Topic: Keep your replies relevant to the discussion thread's main topic.
- Use Proper Grammar and Spelling: Use proper grammar and spelling to enhance the readability and credibility of your posts.
- Provide Value: Aim to contribute meaningfully to the discussion by sharing insights, asking thoughtful questions, and offering constructive feedback.
