Blackboard Ultra (Students) - Discussions: Quote Another Discussion Participant

This article outlines how to quote another discussion participant in Blackboard Ultra to provide better context for your replies.

Quoting Another Discussion Participant

Quoting another participant in a Blackboard Ultra discussion can provide context for your response and make it easier for others to follow the conversation.

Steps to Quote:

  1. Open the desired discussion.
  2. Locate the post you want to quote.
  3. Click the Reply button below the post.
  4. In the reply box, highlight the text from the original post you want to quote.
  5. Copy the highlighted text (Ctrl + C on Windows, Command + C on macOS).
  6. In the reply box, paste the copied text (Ctrl + V on Windows, Command + V on macOS).
  7. Manually format the quoted text by adding quotation marks (") before and after the pasted text. You can also use other formatting to visually distinguish the quote, such as indenting the text.
  8. Add your response below the quoted text.
  9. Click the Reply button to submit your reply with the quoted content.

Example:

Let's say another student, Sarah, posted: "I think the most important aspect of this topic is understanding the historical context."

To quote Sarah in your reply, your post might look like this:

Sarah wrote: "I think the most important aspect of this topic is understanding the historical context."

I agree with Sarah that understanding the historical context is vital, but I also think we need to consider the current social implications.
