Blackboard Ultra (Faculty) - Gradebook: Row/Column Visibility

Visibility

Instructors can hide columns in the Gradebook so students aren't able to view them. This is useful for assessments that are not yet ready to be released to students, or for columns that contain calculations or other information that is not relevant to students.

*Note that Gradebook row/column visibility also corresponds to the item visibility for Blackboard assignments, tests, discussions, and other gradable items. For example, if you want to hide a Gradebook row/column for a Blackboard assignment, that assignment will also be hidden from students in the Course Content area.

Hiding a Column / Row

1. Navigate to the Gradebook and select the List view icon.
   
   
   
   
2. Locate the row/column you want to hide.
   
   
3. Click the ellipsis (three horizontal dots) that appears at the end of the row and choose Edit.
   
   
   
   
4. In the panel that appears, click the visibility drop-down menu and choose Hidden from students. Click Save.
   
   
   
   
5. When you have successfully hidden the row/column, a slash will appear through the row/column header. This indicates that it is not visible to students.
   
   

Showing a Hidden Column

1. Follow the same steps as above, but choose Visible to Students from the visibility drop-down menu in Step 4.
   
   
2. After you click Save, check that the slash has been removed from the column/row header to indicate that it is visible to students.

Additional Information

• Hiding a column does not affect the underlying data or calculations in the Gradebook.
• Students cannot view their grades for columns hidden in the Gradebook or in the course content. Visibility can also be set within the Content tab in the assessment settings or batch edit.
