Blackboard Ultra (Students) - Gradebook: View Assignment Feedback

This article explains how students can access feedback from instructors on assignments within Blackboard Ultra's Gradebook.

Accessing Assignment Feedback in Blackboard Ultra

Instructors can provide feedback on your submitted assignments in Blackboard Ultra. This feedback can include:

  • Overall grade
  • Specific comments on your submission
  • Annotations directly on your submitted document
  • Rubric scores and feedback (if a rubric was used)

There are two ways to access your assignment feedback: through the Course Content or the Gradebook pages.

Steps to View Feedback in the Gradebook:

  1. Navigate to the course in which you submitted the assignment.
  2. Click on the Gradebook tab in the course navigation menu.
A horizontal toolbar that says content, calendar, announcements, discussions, gradebook which is highlighted, messages, and groups.

  3. Click on the assignment title to open the assignment details page.
On the Gradebook tab, there is a list of assignments under grades. The first assignment title "Readings Analysis Assignment" is highlighted.
  4. On the assignment details page, you'll typically find the following:
    • Your grade (if graded).
    • The number of attempts available and attempts submitted.
    • A link to your submitted document with annotations (if the instructor provided annotations).
    • A button to view the assignment instructions.
    • If a rubric was used, you'll see a grid icon next to a hyperlink to view the rubric. Click on this link to see the rubric criteria.

The Assignment Details page lists the due date and a link to the grading rubric. On the far right is information about your grade, with an arrow pointing to the grade itself, number of attempts, and view instructions button.

  5. Click on the hyperlink number submitted next to Attempts to view your submission and the instructor's feedback.
Above the View Instructions button is a double box with a checkmark icon next to Attempts. The number of attempts allowed and submitted is displayed here. Click on the hyperlink (highlighted as 1 submitted here) to open your assignment feedback.

Display of the final grade at the top. Tabs to view instructions or submission are above the attachment of the submission itself. On the right is a panel with a scrolling menu where you can see descriptive feedback from your instructor, as well as the graded rubric.
  6. Alternatively, click the View button on the grade to bypass the assignment details screen and open the submission grade and feedback directly.
On the Grades tab there is a list of item names, due dates, status, grades, and results. Next to the Readings Analysis Assignment grade a black rectangular View button is highlighted.
  7. Review all the feedback provided by your instructor.

Steps to View Feedback from Course Content:

  1. Navigate to the course in which you submitted the assignment.
  2. Click on the Content tab in the course navigation menu and locate the assignment for which you want to view feedback.
  3. Click on the assignment title. This will open the assignment details page.
On the Content tab and below the Course Content heading is a list of elements of the course. The last item is an assignment and the title is highlighted.

  4. Click on the hyperlinked number of submissions next to attempts to open the assignment feedback page.
Above the View Instructions button is a double box with a checkmark icon next to Attempts. The number of attempts allowed and submitted is displayed here. Click on the hyperlink (highlighted as 1 submitted here) to open your assignment feedback.

Understanding Feedback Types:

Annotated Submissions

Instructors can add comments directly to your submitted document. These annotations might include:

  • Highlighted text with comments
  • Strikethroughs
  • Inserted text
  • Comment boxes

Rubric Feedback

If your instructor used a rubric to grade your assignment, you can view the rubric to see how your submission met each criterion. The rubric will typically show:

  • The different criteria used to assess your submission.
  • The performance levels for each criterion.
  • The score you received for each criterion.
  • Comments from the instructor on each criterion.
