Blackboard Ultra (Faculty) - Groups: Creating Group Assignments

This article describes how to create group assignments within Blackboard Ultra.

Creating a Group Assignment

Group assignments allow students to collaborate and submit one assignment per group. Here's how to create one in Blackboard Ultra:

  1. Navigate to your Blackboard Ultra course.
  2. In the Course Content area, hover over where you want to place the assignment.
  3. Click the plus icon (+) and select Create.
  4. In the Create Item panel, select Assignment.
  5. The New Assignment page will appear. Provide the following information:
    • Assignment Name: Enter a descriptive name for the assignment.
    • Instructions: Provide detailed instructions for the assignment.
  6. Use the Settings gear icon to open the Assignment Settings panel and adjust the details:
    • Details and Information: Due date, submission restrictions, etc. 
    • Grading and Submission: Grade category, attempts, points possible, etc.
    • Additional Tools: Attach or create a rubric, assigned groups
    • Description: The text entered in this text box will display under the assignment title in the content tab. 
  7. Under the Assigned Groups header in the settings panel, select Assign to groups.

  8. Choose how to assign groups or create groups:
    • Manually create groups: Create each group individually and add students.
    • Randomly assign: The system randomly assigns students to groups. Instructors can specify the number of students per group or the number of groups.
    • Allow students to self-enroll: Students can choose which group to join. Instructors can set a maximum number of students per group.
    • Reuse groups that were already created in the course. 
  9. Click Save to assign groups. 
  10. Click Save to complete the group assignment creation.

Managing Group Assignments

After creating a group assignment, you can manage the groups and submissions from the assignment's page. You can view group progress, provide feedback, and assign grades.
