Blackboard Ultra (Students) - Journals: Creating a journal entry
Creating a Journal Entry
Journals are a personal space for communicating privately with your instructor. You can use them to reflect on learning activities, discuss course-related materials, or raise questions or concerns. Your instructor sets the journal prompt and grading criteria.
Steps to Create a Journal Entry:
- Navigate to the Journals area in your Blackboard Ultra course. This may be located in the course menu, under "Course Content," or within a specific module. Your instructor will provide guidance on where to find journals.
- Select the journal title that you want to contribute to.

- In the journal page, click the textbox in to type an entry.

- Type your journal entry in the "Content" editor. You can use the formatting options to enhance your text, add images, and embed multimedia. Add attachments to your journal entry by selecting the Add Content button (plus sign icon) in the editor. You can upload files from your computer or attach files from the course.

- Select Post to submit your journal entry.

Viewing Your Journal Entry
After you post your journal entry, it will be visible to you and your instructor. You can access your entry by returning to the journal page and selecting the journal title.
Editing or Deleting a Journal Entry
Depending on your instructor's settings, you may be able to edit or delete your journal entry after you have posted it. To do this:
- Navigate to the journal page and select the journal entry title.
- Select the More options menu (three vertical dots) next to the entry title. If the options are available, select either Edit or Delete.

- If editing, make your changes and select Post to update your entry.
- If deleting, click Delete to confirm you want to delete the entry.
