Blackboard Ultra (Faculty) Pearson - Set Up Assignments

This article provides instructions for faculty on setting up Pearson MyLab and Mastering assignments within Blackboard Ultra courses.

Setting Up Pearson Assignments in Blackboard Ultra

As a reminder, ITS can assist you with adding a Pearson connection in Blackboard, but they cannot fully support the tool's functionality. For Pearson support, please visit https://support.pearson.com/getsupport/s/contactsupport

To set up Pearson assignments in your Blackboard Ultra course, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to your Blackboard Ultra course.
  2. In the Course Content area, click the plus sign where you want to add the Pearson assignment.
  3. Select Content Market.

When you click the plus sign, the Content Market is an option in the drop-down menu.

  4. From the list of available content providers, select Access Pearson (Course Content Link) to link Pearson to your course in general. To link specific Pearson assignments, quizzes, or chapters, select Access Pearson (Deep Linking Tool).

Use the Access Pearson (Deep Linking Tool) tile to connect to specific assignments or assessments.

  5. If this is your first time accessing Pearson in this course, you might be prompted to link your Blackboard account with your Pearson account. Follow the on-screen instructions to do so.
  6. From the Add links from list, choose whether to see assignments, course tools, or eText. Then scroll to see all the links or search for a specific link. Choose a column heading to sort.
  7. Select the assignment(s) you wish to add to your Blackboard Ultra course.
  8. Configure the settings for each assignment, such as due dates, points possible, and availability.
  9. Click Add Links at the bottom of the page to add the assignments to your Blackboard Ultra course.

You'll see the new links in your content area. Delete any characters you don't expect in the headings of your links. Click a link and then Open Pearson to open the link in a new browser tab or window.

Important Considerations

  • Ensure that your Pearson and Blackboard accounts are properly linked before setting up assignments.
  • Check the synchronization settings between Pearson and Blackboard to ensure grades are properly transferred.
  • Communicate clearly with your students about where to access the assignments and how grades will be calculated.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Assignment Links Not Working

If students are reporting that assignment links are not working, try the following:

  1. Verify that the Pearson MyLab & Mastering integration is properly configured in your Blackboard Ultra course.
  2. Check the availability settings for the assignment in both Pearson and Blackboard.
  3. Ensure that students have properly registered for the Pearson MyLab & Mastering course.

Grades Not Syncing

If grades are not syncing between Pearson and Blackboard, try the following:

  1. Verify that the grade synchronization settings are properly configured.
  2. Manually sync the grades from Pearson to Blackboard.
  3. Contact Pearson support for assistance if the issue persists.
