Blackboard Ultra (Faculty) - Respondus Monitor: Enabling Respondus Monitor for an Exam

This article outlines the steps for faculty to enable Respondus Monitor for an exam in Blackboard Ultra.

Publishing to Blackboard Ultra using Respondus 4.0

These steps will guide you through publishing an exam or quiz created in Respondus 4.0 to your Blackboard Ultra course.

  1. Click on Books and Tools on the Details and Actions menu under the course faculty panel on the Course Content page.

The second-to-last item on the Details and Actions panel is Books & tools with a wrench icon.

  2. Select Respondus from the list of tools.

The Respondus logo looks like a padlock with a key hole.

  3. If a Learn Authorization screen shows, click the Allow button.
  4. A list of assessments in the course appears. Click the drop-down menu (icon looks like a downward carrot) next to the assessment you want to require Respondus Monitor. Select Settings.

In the drop-down menu, select the first option labeled settings.

  5. Click the radio button next to "Require Lockdown Browser for this exam". More setting options will appear.
  6. Click the radio button next to "Require Respondus Monitor (automated proctoring) for this exam". More setting options will appear.

The second option under LockDown Browser settings requires it. The second button beneath Respondus Monitor requires it.

  7. Review the camera, screen, startup sequence, face detection, and advanced settings carefully.
  8. Click the Save + Close button when satisfied with the settings.
  9. The dashboard now shows that LockDown Browser and Respondus monitor are now required.

Next to the assessment name will display that LockDown Browser and Respondus monitor are required.

  10. On the Course Content page, a shield icon and the label "Proctored" are now visible next to the assessment.

In the details beneath the assessment title is a shield icon with the label proctored.

Considerations

  • Ensure that students are aware that Respondus Monitor will be used for the exam.
  • Provide students with instructions on how to download and install Respondus LockDown Browser before the exam.
  • Consider creating a practice quiz with Respondus Monitor enabled to allow students to familiarize themselves with the system.
  • Review the recordings after the exam to identify any potential issues.

Troubleshooting

If students experience issues with Respondus Monitor, refer them to the Respondus support resources or the ITS Help Desk.
