Blackboard Ultra (Faculty) - Rubrics: Reuse and Edit Rubrics

This article explains how to reuse a rubric in a new assignment or Blackboard course.

Reusing a Rubric

Previously used rubrics are available to use again in new Blackboard Ultra assignments and courses. 

  1. In your Blackboard Ultra course, navigate to the desired assignment or assessment. 
  2. Select the Assignment Settings icon (gear icon) in the upper-right corner.
  3. Scroll down to Additional Tools and click on Add grading rubric.

    Additional Tools menu includes a hyperlink to add grading rubric.

  4. Previously used rubrics will be listed below the Create and Generate buttons.
  5. Select Add to add that rubric to the assessment.

    The Course Rubrics settings lists previously used rubrics with the option to add or view them on the bottom right side.

  6. The rubric is now attached and will appear in the Additional Tools section beneath Grading Rubric. 

    The Paper Evaluation rubric has been added successfully and is visible beneath the Grading rubric section in the Assignment Settings menu.

  7. Hover over the rubric name and click the trash can icon to delete the rubric, if needed.

Editing a Previously Used Rubric

A rubric cannot be edited after it has been used to grade one or more submissions. However, a copy can be created and then edited to use on a new assessment.

  1. In your Blackboard Ultra course, navigate to the desired assignment or assessment. 
  2. Select the Assignment Settings icon (gear icon) in the upper-right corner.
  3. Scroll down to Additional Tools and click on Add grading rubric.
  4. Previously used rubrics will be listed below the Create and Generate buttons.
  5. Select View to open and view the rubric.

  6. To edit this rubric for the new assignment, click the Create Copy button at the bottom.
  7. Give the rubric a descriptive title so you can locate and use it later.
  8. Use the drop-down menu at the top to change the rubric type (percentage, points, range, or no points).
  9. Hover over the cells you intend to edit and click the pencil icon
  10. Make edits to the points/percentages and descriptors in each cell. 
  11. Click Save.

    The rubric in editable format allows you to hover over the cells you'd like to edit. You can edit the points or percentage and descriptors. Clik the save black save button at the bottom.

  12. The new copy of the rubric will appear in the list of rubrics available. Click Add to attach the rubric to the assessment. 

    The new copy of the rubric now appears on the list of course rubrics in the assignment settings panel.

Important Considerations

  • Imported rubrics may require adjustments to align with the specific assignments in your course.
