Blackboard Ultra (Faculty) - Student Preview: Using Student Preview

This article explains how faculty can use the Student Preview feature in Blackboard Ultra to view their course as a student would.

To access Student Preview in Blackboard Ultra, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to your course in Blackboard Ultra.
  2. In the upper-right corner, locate and click the Student Preview icon. It looks like an eye.

Using Student Preview

Once you have entered Student Preview:

  • You will see the course as a student would see it. This includes all content, assignments, and tools that are available to students.
  • You can navigate the course, submit assignments, take tests, and participate in discussions as a student.
  • Any activity you complete in Student Preview (e.g., submitting an assignment) will be recorded as if it were a real student submission. This allows you to test grading rubrics and processes.

Exiting Student Preview

To exit Student Preview and return to your instructor view:

  1. In the gray bar at the top of the course, click the Exit button.

    exit student preview

  2. You will be prompted to choose whether to keep or delete the preview user and all associated data.
    • Save: This allows you to review the data generated during the preview, such as submitted assignments.
    • Discard: This removes all traces of the preview user and any associated activity. Choose this option if you were just testing the view and don't need to retain any data.

      exit student preview options

  3. Click the appropriate button.

Important Considerations

  • Student Preview is a valuable tool for ensuring that your course is set up correctly and that students have a clear understanding of expectations.
  • Remember to delete the preview user and all data if you do not need to retain any information generated during the preview.
