Blackboard Ultra (Faculty) - Turnitin Assignments: Create a PeerMark Assignment

This article explains how instructors can create PeerMark assignments within Turnitin in Blackboard Ultra to allow students to review each other's work.

What is PeerMark?

PeerMark is a peer review assignment tool, offering peer marking of Turnitin assignments. Instructors can create and manage PeerMark assignments that allow students to read, review, and evaluate papers submitted by their classmates.

Creating a PeerMark Assignment

To create a PeerMark assignment within Turnitin in Blackboard Ultra, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to your course in Blackboard Ultra.
  2. In the Course Content area, hover over where you want to place the assignment, and click the plus sign.
  3. Select Content Market from the menu.
  4. Select the Turnitin option.
  5. Click Standard Assignment.
  6. Enter an assignment title, instructions, points possible, and dates in their corresponding fields.
  7. Click the checkbox next to Enable PeerMark.

    The assignment details includes areas tot ype the title, instructions, maximum grade, and dates. There is a checkbox next to Enable Peer Mark.

  8. Click the Submit button. 

PeerMark Assignment Settings

  1. Locate the newly-created Turnitin assignment with PeerMark enabled.
  2. Click on the title to launch the Turnitin Dashboard.
  3. Click on the PeerMark page in the horizontal toolbar.
  4. Select PeerMark Setup from the drop-down menu.

    The gray toolbar shows the Turnitin logo which is a blue rectangle with an arrow, analytics, and Peermark with a carrot for a dropdown menu.

  5. Select the PeerMark Assignment tab to enter the title, review instructions, maximum points, and dates for the review.
  6. In the Instructions field, provide clear instructions for students about how to complete their reviews.
  7. Select Additional Settings to view more options for the assignment.
  8. Click the Save button.
  9. To add custom questions, click the PeerMark Questions tab.
  10. Click + Add Question button to add a question.You can choose from the following question types:
    • Free Response: Students can write a free-form answer.
    • Scale: Students select a rating on a numerical scale.

      The PeerMark Questions menu shows several question buttons with the Add Question button highlighted.
  11. Select the Distribution tab to assign peer reviewers to each submission. Click the plus/minus (+/-) buttons unpair, pair, or exclude peer reviewers.

    The Distribution tab shows the paper author and has a blue minus, a white plus, and a red minus icon to assign peer reviewers.

  12. Click the Create PeerMark Assignment button.
