Creating a Turnitin Assignment
Turnitin is a plagiarism prevention and detection tool integrated into Blackboard Ultra. It allows instructors to check student submissions for originality and provide feedback directly on the assignment.Turnitin can be enabled on an assignment or you can add an assignment to Blackboard directly through Turnitin for advanced usability.
- Navigate to your course in Blackboard Ultra.
- On the Course Content page, click the + icon in the desired location.
- Select Content Market.

- Locate and click on the Turnitin LtI 1.3 tile.

- Select Standard if this is a new assignment or Copy if it already exists in your library. Select Multipart for linked assignment parts.
NOTE: Standard (Classic) may still be available but evenutally it will be phased out and removed.

- The Turnitin settings panel will appear. Type a descriptive title and assignment instructions in the text editor box and toolbar.
- Set the start, due, and feedback release dates.
- Determine the maximum points allowed.
- Click Submission Settings and click the encircled "i" icon to see more advanced option descriptions:
- Allow late submissions
- Allow resubmissions until due date
- Allow submission of any type of file
- Click Report settings for these settings:
- Student access to report
- Generate Similarity Report
- Store submissions for comparison
- Compare submissions for similarity
- Exclude from Similarity Report
- Translated matching
- Optionally, click Grading and feedback settings to attach a rubric to use for grading and feedback.
- Click the Create Assignment button.
- The assignment should now appear on your Course content page. Drag and drop the block to organize your content as needed.
- Click the three dots (...) on the right of the block to edit more assignment settings, check student progress, or delete.
Accessing Turnitin Similarity Reports
Once students submit their assignments, you can access the Turnitin Similarity Reports by clicking on the assignment in your Blackboard Ultra course and then clicking on a student's submission. The Similarity Report will show the percentage of the submission that matches other sources.
