Understanding the Originality Report

The Originality Report provides a detailed analysis of your submission, highlighting sections that match content from other sources. Here are some key features:

Similarity Report view with categories and filter options

  • Similarity Score: A percentage indicating the amount of your submission that matches other sources. A lower score is generally desirable, but it doesn't necessarily mean plagiarism has occurred.
  • Source Matching: Highlighted text within your submission that matches sources in Turnitin's database. Clicking on highlighted sections will reveal the source of the match.
  • Filters and Exclusions: You may have the option to exclude certain sources or quoted material from the report.

Note: The availability and specific features of the Originality Report are determined by your instructor. If you have questions about the report or its interpretation, please contact your instructor directly.

Troubleshooting

Report Not Available

If the Originality Report is not immediately available after submission:

  • Wait: The report may take some time to generate, especially during peak submission periods. Check back after a few minutes.
  • Contact Instructor: Confirm with your instructor that the Originality Report is enabled for the assignment and when it will be available to students.

Report Won't Open

If you are unable to open the Originality Report:

  • Check Browser: Ensure you are using a supported web browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Safari).
  • Clear Cache: Clear your browser's cache and cookies.
  • Disable Extensions: Disable any browser extensions that may be interfering with Turnitin.
