Blackboard Ultra (Students) - Turnitin Assignments: Write a PeerMark Assignment

This article outlines the steps for students to write a PeerMark assignment within a Turnitin assignment in Blackboard Ultra.

PeerMark assignments allow you to review and provide feedback on your classmates' submissions. This process can help you understand different perspectives, improve your critical thinking skills, and gain valuable insights into your own work. To complete a PeerMark assignment, follow these steps:

Accessing the PeerMark Assignment

  1. Log in to Blackboard Ultra.
  2. Navigate to the course containing the Turnitin assignment.
  3. Click on the Turnitin assignment to access it.
  4. Click the black Launch button.
  5. Look for the "PeerMark" section or tab within the Turnitin assignment interface. The location may vary depending on how your instructor has set up the assignment.

Next to the blue paper logo with an arrow are two tabs. Select the tab that says PeerMark Reviews.

Writing Your PeerMark Review

  1. A list of submissions is available for review.
  2. Click on the row of the submission to open the PeerMark Review interface.

The PeerMark Interface lists submissions available for review, including the author, title and review option. Hover over the row and click to open it.

  3. The submission will open in a new window or tab.
  4. Carefully read the submission and consider the criteria outlined in the PeerMark assignment. Your instructor may have provided specific questions or rubrics to guide your feedback.
  5. Typically, instructors assign a set of questions or comment boxes related to the PeerMark criteria. Type your responses in the designated areas.

Reviewers answer questions on a scale or in written feedback on the question panel. The save and submit buttons are on top.

  6. Be specific and constructive in your feedback. Explain what the student did well and suggest areas for improvement. Use examples from the submission to support your points.
  7. Some PeerMark assignments may allow inline comments directly on the submission. If this option is available, click on the text you want to comment on and add feedback.

A smal pop-up box labeld Add a Comment opens when you click directly on an assignment.

  8. Save progress regularly. Most PeerMark systems have an autosave feature, but it's always a good idea to manually save work often to avoid losing any feedback.

  9. Be sure to review your feedback one last time before submitting to ensure that it is clear, accurate, and helpful.
  10. Once the review is complete, click submit

Important Considerations

  • Deadlines: Pay close attention to the deadlines for completing PeerMark assignments. Late submissions may not be accepted.
  • Anonymity: Some PeerMark assignments may be anonymous, meaning that you will not know whose submission you are reviewing, and the author will not know who reviewed their work. In these cases, it's important to focus on the quality of the work itself, rather than the identity of the author.
  • Rubrics: Familiarize yourself with any rubrics or guidelines provided by your instructor. These will help you understand the expectations for the assignment and provide more targeted feedback.
