Special Accounts - Password Management and Reset Process

Owners of SIUE special accounts must request system-generated password resets through the ITS Help Desk, as self-service password management is no longer supported.

Password Management Policy

Following the university's transition to Entra, special account passwords are now entirely system-generated and automatically change once a year. Owners can no longer manually manage, change, or reset the passwords for their special accounts. Only the system-generated passwords provided by ITS may be used.

How to Request a Password Reset

If a special account password has expired, is forgotten, or needs to be reset, the account owner must request a new password by following these steps:

  1. Email the ITS Help Desk at help@siue.edu from your SIUE email account (the request must come from the owner of the special account.
  2. Include the specific S-number (e.g., s000000@siue.edu) of the special account in your message.
  3. Clearly state that you are the owner requesting a password reset for the specified account.

Once the request is verified and processed, the owner will receive an email with a secure link to File Drop to retrieve the newly generated password.
