eduroam (Apple Devices) - Remove Legacy SIUE eduroam Profile and Reconnect

Returning students, faculty, and staff with an iPhone, iPad, or MacBook that was previously configured for eduroam can remove the old eduroam profile and reinstall the current configuration to reconnect to the network.

Symptoms

Apply this fix if you previously connected an Apple device to eduroam and now see one of the following when trying to reconnect:

  • "Unable to join the network 'eduroam'"
  • The SecureW2 profile fails to install or load
  • Wireless connectivity works for a short time and then stops after the device restarts
  • The SecureW2 configurator reports that an existing profile must be removed

Cause

The device still contains the legacy SIUE SIUE-eduroam-TLS MobileConfig profile. That old profile conflicts with the new SecureW2-generated profile and blocks authentication to eduroam.

Resolution: iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select General.
  3. Select VPN & Device Management.
  4. Locate SIUE SIUE-eduroam-TLS MobileConfig.
  5. Select the profile.
  6. Choose Remove Profile.
  7. Confirm profile removal.
  8. Run the SecureW2 eduroam setup process again.
  9. Connect to eduroam using your full SIUE email address if prompted.

Resolution: MacBook

  1. Open System Settings.
  2. Select General.
  3. Select Device Management. (On older macOS versions, look under Profiles in System Settings or System Preferences.)
  4. Locate SIUE SIUE-eduroam-TLS MobileConfig.
  5. Select the profile and click the remove button.
  6. Confirm profile removal.
  7. Run the SecureW2 eduroam setup process again.
  8. Connect to eduroam using your full SIUE email address if prompted.

When to Use This Fix

  • A returning user can't connect to eduroam after running the SecureW2 configurator.
  • SecureW2 reports a profile installation error.
  • An Apple device displays "Unable to join the network 'eduroam'."
  • The user previously used eduroam on the device before the current onboarding process was introduced.
