Apply a Survey Theme

Before you begin, open the survey you want to update and ensure you are on the Survey tab. Theme availability depends on the libraries made available in your Qualtrics brand.

1. While editing the survey, select Look & Feel from the Survey tab.
2. In the editor, open the Theme section.
3. Open the survey theme library dropdown and select Presets for Qualtrics-provided themes, or select your organization's library if a branded library is available.
4. Select the theme you want to apply to view a preview in the display.
5. Review the preview for colors, fonts, layout, logo, background, and navigation styling.
6. Click Apply to save the selected theme to the survey.

Theme Types and Editing Limits

• Dynamic themes: Modern themes that can be adjusted through "General", "Style", "Motion", "Logo", and "Background". Qualtrics identifies its preset themes as dynamic themes.
• Static themes: Legacy themes where "Layout", "Logo", and "Background" may be unavailable because those settings are built into the theme code. A red alert triangle appears when a static theme is selected.

Important Notice Regarding Static Themes

Beginning December 31, 2026, new static themes can no longer be created, and existing static themes can no longer be edited. Existing static themes will continue to work but will be read-only. Dynamic themes will be the option for creating or updating themes.

Helpful Checks Before Distribution

• Preview the theme using the Look & Feel display to review the applied appearance.
• If you expect an SIUE-branded theme but do not see an organization library, confirm the correct library as available themes may differ for your account.
• Watch for disabled controls, such as greyed-out "Layout", "Logo", or "Background" sections, which can indicate that a static theme is selected.
• Prefer a dynamic theme when appropriate, as they are the modern, accessibility-ready theme type.
