Account Access - Manage Your SIUE Sign-In Methods and Security Info
All sign-in method management is done at https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info. You must be signed in with at least one working method to make changes. If you cannot sign in at all, see Account Access - Recover Your SIUE Account When You Have Lost All Sign-In Methods instead.
Check Your Current Sign-In Methods
Before making any changes, confirm what is currently registered on your account.
- Go to
https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-infoand sign in. - Review the list of registered methods.
Your account is complete if the list includes both:
- Microsoft Authenticator — listed as a registered method.
- A passkey or FIDO2 security key — shown by device name or key name (for example,
My iPhoneorYubiKey).
If either is missing, see the setup guides in Account Access - Understanding Your SIUE Sign-In Options (Microsoft Authentication Changes)
Change Your Default Sign-In Method
Your default sign-in method is what Microsoft uses first when you sign in. If your default is still set to SMS or a phone call, change it now. Those methods stop working February 1, 2027.
- Go to
https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-infoand sign in. - At the top of the page, locate Default sign-in method and select Change.
- Select Microsoft Authenticator — notification from the dropdown, then select Confirm.
After changing, your next sign-in will prompt you to approve a notification in the Authenticator app instead of sending a text message.
Tasks
Select the task below that matches what you need to do.
Add a Passkey on a Second Device
ITS recommends registering a passkey on at least two devices. If your primary device is lost or unavailable, a second passkey means you can still sign in without going through account recovery.
To register a passkey on a second device, follow the full registration steps in Account Access - Register a Passkey for Your SIUE Account. while signed in from a device that already has a working passkey or Authenticator.
Good second-device combinations:
- Phone + Windows PC
- Phone + FIDO2 security key
- iPhone + Mac (iCloud Keychain syncs automatically — no separate registration needed)
- Android phone + another Android device signed in to the same Google account (Google Password Manager syncs automatically)
Remove a Passkey or Sign-In Method
Remove a method when a device is lost, stolen, or retired, or when you replace a phone and no longer use the old one.
- Go to
https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-infoand sign in. - Find the method you want to remove in the list.
- Select Delete next to it and confirm.
Important: Do not remove a method until you have confirmed a replacement is registered and working. Removing your last passkey or your last sign-in method will lock you out.
If you see a method on your Security Info page that you do not recognize and did not add, contact the ITS Help Desk immediately at (618) 650-5500. This may indicate unauthorized access to your account.
Replace Passkeys After Getting a New Phone
What you need to do after a phone replacement depends on your phone type and whether a backup was restored.
iPhone — iCloud Keychain restored from backup
If your new iPhone was set up from an iCloud backup and is signed in to the same Apple ID, your passkeys are already available. No re-registration is needed.
- Sign in to any SIUE Microsoft service and confirm your passkey prompt appears on the new device.
- Go to
https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-infoand remove the old phone if it appears as a separate entry.
Android — Google Password Manager restored from backup
If your new Android device is signed in to the same Google account, your passkeys sync automatically through Google Password Manager. No re-registration is needed.
- Sign in to any SIUE Microsoft service and confirm your passkey prompt appears on the new device.
- Go to
https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-infoand remove the old phone if it appears as a separate entry.
New phone — no backup, or switching platforms
If you switched platforms (iPhone to Android or vice versa), set up a completely new phone without restoring a backup, or your passkeys did not carry over, you need to register a new passkey manually.
- Sign in using Microsoft Authenticator (transfer Authenticator to the new phone first if needed — see Set Up Authenticator on a New Phone).
- Once signed in, go to
https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info. - Register a passkey on your new device. See Account Access - Register a Passkey for Your SIUE Account for steps.
- Remove the passkey entry for your old device once the new one is confirmed working.
Confirm Your Account Is in Good Shape
After any change to your sign-in methods, verify your account state:
- Go to
https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-infoand sign in. - Confirm Microsoft Authenticator is listed.
- Confirm at least one passkey or FIDO2 security key is listed.
- Confirm no unexpected methods appear. If anything looks unfamiliar, contact the ITS Help Desk immediately.
