Blackboard Ultra (Faculty) - Gradebook: Granting Student Exemptions

This article describes when and how to use exemptions on graded activities.

Exempting a Student from a Graded Activity

In some situations, a student may need to be excused from completing a specific assessment or activity. When a Gradebook item is exempt:

  • It is removed from the student's overall grade calculation.
  • It is not marked late.
  • Automatic zeros are not applied.

To Exempt a Student

  1. Navigate to the Gradebook in Grid view.
  2. Click on the student's name to open that student's grading panel.
  3. Locate the assignment to which the exemption will be applied.
  4. Select the More Options (...) menu.
  5. Choose Add or Edit Exemption.
  6. Select the checkbox to enable Exempt Grade.
  7. Save your changes.
