Office 365 (OWA) - How to Disable Forwarding

Instructions for disabling automatic email forwarding and removing forwarding rules in the Outlook Web App (OWA).

Disable Global Forwarding

Follow these steps to stop your account from automatically forwarding all emails to another address.

  1. Log in to Outlook at outlook.office365.com.
  2. Click the Settings (gear icon) in the top right corner.
  3. Select Mail > Forwarding.
  4. Click the Enable forwarding checkbox to uncheck it (disable the setting).
  5. Click Save to apply the changes.

Disable Forwarding Rules

If emails are still being forwarded after disabling the global setting, you may have an Inbox Rule active. Follow these steps to remove it.

  1. Log in to Outlook at outlook.office365.com.
  2. Click the Settings (gear icon) in the top right corner.
  3. Select Mail > Inbox rules.
  4. Locate the rule you wish to modify:
    • To Disable: Click the toggle slider next to the rule so it turns gray (inactive).
    • To Delete: Click the Delete (trash can icon) to the right of the rule.
  5. If deleting, a confirmation prompt will appear. Click OK to permanently remove the rule.
