Connecting a Nintendo Switch to the WiFi Network

Following update 5.0 on the Nintendo Switch the OS will not automatically open a browser for public WiFi authentication.
Connecting a Nintendo Switch to the WiFi Network
  • Since WPA2-Enterprise is currently not supported on Switch devices, you will not be able to connect to Eduroam. Welcome to SIUE will be the only university network you can use to connect to the Internet.
  • Registering the MAC address to use Eduardo will also not work because it is an unsupported network type.
To Connect to the Welcome Wifi

1.  On the Nintendo Switch console, select Settings from the HOME Menu.

2.  Select Internet, and then Internet Settings. The Nintendo Switch will automatically search for near-by Wi-Fi signals.

3.  Select Welcome to SIUE and try to connect. This may take a minute or two before connection to the internet fails.

4.  It will display a message saying "The network you are trying to connect to needs authentication" along some lines.

5.  Click "Next".

6.  The web page to accept terms and conditions will attempt to load but may display a message saying "Bad link" or a timeout error.

7.  If this occurs back out of setting completely and retry the previous steps. Eventually the terms web page should load allowing you to accept the terms and conditions.
