Blackboard (All Users) - Understanding the Blackboard Landing Page MyBlackboard
This document provides an overview of the Blackboard landing page, MyBlackboard.
When first logged into Blackboard at https://bb.siue.edu/, the landing page is called myBlackboard. In the My Courses box, you will see your courses from past, current, and future semesters.
Semester and Year Designation
Semesters are designated by a 6-digit number. For example 202225. You will see this number next to the drop-down arrow, in the course ID number, and at the end of the course name.
The first four digits are the year.
The last two digits are the semester:
15 = Spring
25 = Summer
35 = Fall
Therefore, 202225 is the Summer semester (25) of 2022.
Past Semester Courses
You will see your old courses labeled as not currently available. In this example, 202215 is from the Spring of 2022. You will not be able to access the course.
Current Semester Courses
You will see your current semester courses (202225, Summer 2022). These courses are hyperlinked and clickable.
Next Semester's Courses
You will also see next semester's classes (202235, Fall 2022). These will begin appearing about mid-semester of the current semester.
NOTE: Your instructor will make the courses available, usually one week before the class begins. You will not be able to access this class until it is made available (with a blue, clickable, hyperlink). However you can still confirm you are enrolled in the correct course by the Course ID. For the example above, the course is Management 330, section 112, for the Fall 2022 (202235). If you believe you are in the incorrect course or section, contact your advisor immediately.
Once the semester begins, if the course is still in (not currently available) status, contact your instructor to make it available. ITS will not make a course available without the instructor's permission.
Hide Semesters
It is best practice to hide past and future semesters, leaving only the current one.
- If you set up the My Courses box to group classes by term, click the down arrow next to the semester and the sections will collapse. See below, semester 202215 and 202035 are both collapsed. Current semester 202225 is expanded to see the open classes.
- To set this up click on the cog wheel at the top of the My Courses box.
- Check the box Group by Term if it is not already checked.
- Uncheck all the term boxes except for the current term.
- Click Submit at the bottom of the page.
- Only the current term is visible.
Remember! You will have to do this every semester to see the current semester. These changes are not automatically applied!
