Microsoft Teams (Desktop and Mobile) - How to Forward Your Calls
Learn how to set up call forwarding in Microsoft Teams to redirect incoming calls to another number, voicemail, or contact. This guide covers both immediate forwarding and forwarding unanswered calls on desktop and mobile devices.
Call forwarding in Microsoft Teams allows you to redirect incoming calls to another phone number, contact, or voicemail when you're unavailable or want calls handled elsewhere. You can set up immediate forwarding or forward only unanswered calls.
Setting Up Call Forwarding on Teams Desktop
Access Call Settings
- Open Microsoft Teams on your desktop
- Click on the three dots in the top-right corner
- Select Settings from the dropdown menu
- Click on Calls in the left sidebar
Configure Call Forwarding Options
In the Call answering rules section, you'll see several forwarding options:
Forward All Calls Immediately
- Under "Call handling and forwarding," select Forward all calls
- Under "Choose how all your calls will be forwarded" choose your forwarding destination:
- Forward to Voicemail - Sends calls directly to your Teams voicemail
- Forward to a New Number of Contact - Enter a phone number or select a contact to forward calls to
- Note: Once you select a forwarding option and enter the destination, the change takes effect immediately, there is no separate “Save” button.
Forward Unanswered Calls Only
- Under "When you can't answer a call" choose:
- Do not redirect call - Calls will go to voicemail after ringing
- Redirect to voicemail - Explicitly send to voicemail
- Redirect to a new contact or number - Redirect to another destination
- Set the ring duration using the dropdown
- Note: These settings also apply immediately after selection—no need to click “Save.”
Simultaneous Ring
- Under "When you receive a call," select Also ring a new number or contact
- Enter a phone number or select a contact to simultaneously ring
- Note: These settings also apply immediately after selection—no need to click “Save.”
Verification Steps
- Test your forwarding by having someone call your Teams number
- Check that the call routes to your specified destination
- Verify the ring duration matches your settings
- Confirm voicemail is working if that's your forwarding destination
