Blackboard Ultra (Faculty) - Tests, Forms, and Pools: Grading a Test

This article outlines the process of grading a test in Blackboard Ultra.

Grading a Test in Blackboard Ultra

After students submit tests in Blackboard Ultra, instructors need to grade them. Here's how:

  1. Locate the test within the course content.

  2. Click the test title to open the test, then click "submissions."

  3. On the "Submissions" page, you will see a list of all student submissions. You can sort submissions by name, student status, or grading status.

  4. To begin grading, click a student's name or the "Needs Grading" status associated with their submission. This will open the attempt.

  5. Review the student's answers. Blackboard Ultra will automatically score questions that are graded automatically (e.g., multiple choice, true/false). For essay questions or other questions requiring manual grading.
  6. Type feedback directly into the "Feedback" area for each question.

  7. Enter a point value for the question in the "Score" field.

  8. In the "Overall Feedback" area, you can provide general comments on the student's performance on the test.

  9. Enter the overall grade for the test in the "Grade" field.

  10. Click the Save button to save your grading progress and continue grading later.
  11. Click the Post button to release the grade and feedback to the student. The student will not see the grade until you post it.

  12. To move to the next student's submission, use the arrows at the top of the screen to navigate between attempts.

Overriding a Grade

You can override a grade if necessary. To do so:

  1. Navigate to the graded test attempt.
  2. In the "Grade" field, click on the existing grade.

  3. Enter the new grade.
  4. The grade will save automatically.
