Cannot Import Blackboard Course in Safari

This document provides an overview of how to fix an issue with Safari unzipping files.

Safari browser automatically unzips downloaded files that appear to be "safe," including export files from Blackboard. This is a problem when you try to import the package back into a new Blackboard course because the file must remain zipped for the import to work.

This is the workaround for Mac Safari users:

  1. Open Safari
  2. Click on the Safari menu.
  3. Choose Preferences from the dropdown list.

  4. Click on the General tab.
  5. Uncheck the box “Open ‘Safe’ files after downloading.”
