Zoom: Pro vs Basic Accounts (Faculty)
This document describes the difference between a basic account in Zoom and a pro account.
All SIUE faculty, staff, and students can access Zoom by logging into www.siue.edu/zoom with their e-ID and password. Everyone at the University starts with a basic account, but faculty and staff can be upgraded to a pro account upon request.
Basic Zoom accounts are limited to 40-minute sessions.
- If you are unsure of your account type, you can check it by logging into www.siue.edu/zoom with your e-ID and password. Scroll to the User Type section of the My Profile screen. It will say either Basic or Pro here.
- If a Zoom meeting automatically ends at 40 minutes, this means the host has a basic account.
Pro Zoom accounts do not have time limits.
- Faculty and staff who need to record or host a meeting longer than 40 minutes can request a pro account. Please allow 1 business day for processing.
- Pro accounts do not need to be renewed or requested again; they stay with the faculty or staff person as long as they are employed at SIUE.
