Blackboard Ultra (Faculty) - Gradebook: Overwrite an "In Progress" Attempt

Instructors can overwrite an "In Progress" attempt in the Blackboard Ultra Gradebook. This allows for grading an attempt that was never officially submitted.

Overwriting an "In Progress" Attempt

Sometimes students may begin an assessment and not officially submit it, resulting in an "In Progress" attempt in the Gradebook. Instructors can overwrite this attempt to provide a grade.

  1. Navigate to the Blackboard Ultra course.
  2. Click on the Gradebook in the navigation bar on the top.

    Gradebook tab

  3. Locate the student, click on their name, and find the assessment with the "Draft Saved" status.
  4. Click the assignment and enter the grade.

    Box to enter grade

  5. Optionally, provide feedback to the student in the provided text box.
  6. Click Post to save the grade and feedback.

Important Considerations

  • Overwriting an "In Progress" attempt will permanently assign a grade for that attempt.
  • The student will not be able to submit the assessment after the grade is overwritten.
  • It is recommended to communicate with the student before overwriting an "In Progress" attempt to ensure they are aware of the grading decision.
