Overwriting an "In Progress" Attempt

Sometimes students may begin an assessment and not officially submit it, resulting in an "In Progress" attempt in the Gradebook. Instructors can overwrite this attempt to provide a grade.

1. Navigate to the Blackboard Ultra course.
2. Click on the Gradebook icon in the left-hand navigation menu.
3. Locate the student and the assessment with the "In Progress" status.
4. Click the cell and select View submission from the drop-down menu.
5. Click the ellipsis (three dots) next to the "In Progress" status.
6. Select Override Final Grade.
   
   
   
   
7. Enter the grade for the attempt in the new white pill labeled "Overrride."
   
   
   
   
8. Optionally, provide feedback to the student in the provided text box.
9. Click Post to save the grade and feedback.

Important Considerations

• Overwriting an "In Progress" attempt will permanently assign a grade for that attempt.
• The student will not be able to submit the assessment after the grade is overwritten.
• It is recommended to communicate with the student before overwriting an "In Progress" attempt to ensure they are aware of the grading decision.
