Blackboard Ultra (Faculty) - Tests, Forms, and Pools: Create a New Test
This article explains how to deploy a test in the Content Area of a Blackboard Ultra course.
Creating a New Test
Instructors can create tests to assess student learning in Blackboard Ultra.
Steps to Create a Test
- Navigate to your course in Blackboard Ultra.
- On the Course Content page, select the plus sign where you want to add the test or survey.
- Select Create.
- In the Create Item panel, select Test under the Assessment heading.

- A new test or form will open. Enter a descriptive name at the top.

- Use the plus sign to add questions and content. You can add many different types of questions, such as Multiple Choice, True/False, Essay, etc.
- Click the gear icon to open the Assessment settings.
- Configure the assessment settings. Available settings include:
- Details and Information: Set the due date, prohibit or allow late submissions, and allow class conversations.
- Presentation Options: Randomize questions, present one question at a time, etc.
- Formative Assessment: Label a form used to collect information as a Formative assessment if it is not for a grade.
- Grading and Submissions: Set the grade category, number of attempts, points, etc.
- Assessment Results: view the submission, automated question feedback, correct answers, etc.
- Assessment Security: Add an access code or enable the Respondus LockDown Browser.
- Additional Tools: Add a time limit, align with goals, assign to groups, enable Turnitin
- Description: Type a description of the assessment to be displayed on the Course Content page.
- Select Save to save your settings.
Adding Questions
Blackboard Ultra offers a variety of question types to choose from:
- Add a Question pool (a collection of questions that can be used in multiple assessments, allowing you to reuse and edit questions in different versions of the assessment)
- Calculated Formula
- Calculated Numeric
- Essay
- Fill-in-the-Blank
- Hotspot
- Matching
- Multiple Choice
- True/False
- Jumbled Sentence
- Reuse questions
- File Response
When creating a question, enter the question text and provide the answer choices or the correct answer, depending on the question type. You can also add feedback for correct and incorrect answers.
