Blackboard Ultra (Faculty) - Turnitin Assignments: Grade Student Submissions with Turnitin Feedback Studio Tools

This article describes the Feedback Studio tools available when grading Turnitin assignments within Blackboard Ultra.
This document provides an overview of how to access and grade student submissions through Turnitin in Blackboard.

Turnitin Feedback Studio is an online tool that is used for grading papers, presentations, and other student work. Work submitted through Turnitin can be marked up with Feedback Studio using the standard as well as customized grading marks.

Instructors must first set up a Turnitin assignment before using Feedback Studio features. Once assignments have been submitted, papers can then be graded using Feedback Studio. See the Create a Turnitin Assignment knowledge base article for detailed instructions on creating a Turnitin assignment.

Turnitin Feedback Studio: Similarity

Use the red toolbar to view the Similarity findings.

Similarity Report

The Similarity Report highlights sections of the submitted paper that match sources in Turnitin's database. This report can assist in identifying potential plagiarism.

  • The overall similarity score is displayed as the Match Overview.
  • Click on each match to jump to the similar text. It is also color-coded.
  • To download the full Similarity Report, click the down arrow icon on the gray toolbar. Select Current view.

The Math Overview tab displays the similarity percentage and lists how much content is from each source. On the student submission, text is highlighted and color-coded.

Flags for Review

This panel lists any inconsistencies that would set it apart from a normal submission. A flag is not necessarily an indicator of a problem, but it’s a good place to focus your attention for further review.

All Sources

This panel reveals exactly what content was taken from which source.

The All Sources panel highlights and points out specific text that is similar to another source.

Filter and Settings

This panel is used to exclude certain types of content and sources. Multi-color highlighting can also be enabled here. NOTE: Be sure to click Apply Changes and New Report after altering the settings.

The filter and settings panel has several check boxes to exclude certain text types. There is also a section to exclude sources based on the number of words or percentage of similarity.

Excluded Sources

This is a list of sources excluded from the similarity report, if applicable. This is determined by the settings.

Grade a Student Submission

Enter the grade at the top of the assignment next to the student's name. The grade will update in both the Turnitin Assignment Inbox and the Gradebook.

Enter the grade next to the student name and submission title at the top are two dashes next to the total points possible.

Downloading the Graded Paper

You can download a copy of the graded paper with all of your comments and feedback included.

  1. From within Feedback Studio, select the print/download icon on the gray toolbar (down arrow pointing to a line).
