Account Access - Account Recovery: Lost All Sign-In Methods

Regain access to your SIUE account when you have lost your phone, passkey, and any other way to verify your identity.

Before You Need This

The best way to recover from a lost device is to never need recovery at all. If you still have access to your account, take a few minutes now to:

  • Register a passkey on at least two devices. A phone and a computer give you a backup if one is lost. See Account Access - Setting Up and Signing In with a Passkey for setup instructions.
  • Make sure you have more than one sign-in method registered. Go to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info and confirm you have at least two methods listed.
  • Update your self-service password reset alternate methods. SMS and voice call verification are being retired. If a phone number is your only alternate method for self-service password reset, you will no longer be able to reset your password on your own after the retirement. See E-ID - Changing your E-ID password to add a new alternate method while you still have access.

If you've lost all your methods, the steps below will help.

Account Recovery Options

If you cannot sign in to your SIUE account, the following options are available:

  • Self-help options: Use the self-service tools to regain access by clicking Forgot my password on the password entry screen. If your account defaults to a passkey login, you must first click Sign in another way, select the Password option, and then click Forgot my password.
  • Identity verification in person at the ITS Help Desk: Visit the ITS Help Desk in person at Lovejoy Library Room 0005 during regular business hours. Bring a government-issued photo ID. Staff will verify your identity and help you regain access to your account.
  • Over the phone by calling the ITS Help Desk: Call (618) 650-5500. Be prepared to verify your identity. Help Desk staff will work with you to restore access.

Once you are back in, register new passkeys or authentication methods immediately.

After You Regain Access

Once you can sign in again, take these steps right away:

  1. Go to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info.
  2. Remove any passkeys or methods tied to devices you no longer have.
  3. Register a passkey on at least two devices you currently have access to.
  4. A hardware security key is also worth adding since it works independently of your phone or computer.
