Blackboard (Faculty) - Grade Center: Upload Grades from Excel to the Grade Center

This document provides an overview of how to upload grades from Excel to the Grade Center.

There may be times when you wish to do grade calculations in Excel or grade an assessment outside of Blackboard for later uploading to Blackboard. To ensure a smooth upload, it is best to start with an Excel file that has been first downloaded from the Grade Center. Downloading the Grade Center will ensure proper formatting and include the student list of names and e-IDs.

  • Download the Grade Center
    • There are multiple reason you may wish to download the Grade Center:
      1. Keep as a backup for reference (if you don't have access to Blackboard or the internet).
      2. For record keeping of grades after the semester is completed.
      3. To manually configure grades with formulas in Excel and upload back to Blackboard.

      Access the Grade Center

      1. From the Control Panel, click on Grade Center.
      2. Click Full Grade Center.
      3. Hover your mouse over the "Work Offline" button in the upper right corner.
      4. Click Download.
      5. From the "Data" section, determine if you wish to download
        1. The Full Grade Center  - use this option especially for Grade Center backups and record keeping
        2. Selected Column - if you wish to download only one column. Student data columns will be included.
        3. User Information Only - this is a good option if you wish a printable roster
      6. From the "Options" section, accept the defaults
      7. From the Save Location, accept the default of "My Computer."
      8. Click Submit.
      9. Click the Download button and save the file to your computer. You may save the file with a new name.
