SIUE Email - Shared Mailboxes Overview and Request
What is a Shared Mailbox?
A shared mailbox is a special email inbox in Office 365 that functions like a standard email account, but allows multiple users to access the same inbox. Shared mailboxes enable teams, departments, or student organizations to collaborate on email communication without sharing individual account credentials.
Common Use Cases
Shared mailboxes are typically used for:
- Department or team communication - A single point of contact for inquiries
- Student organizations - Collaborative email management for clubs and organizations
- Project teams - Centralized communication for specific projects or initiatives
- Service accounts - Monitoring automated notifications or system messages
- Functional roles - Email addresses for positions rather than individuals
How to Request a Shared Mailbox
To request a new shared mailbox, email your request to winadmin@siue.edu.
Note: If the request is for a student organization, the faculty advisor must send the email.
