Blackboard Ultra (Faculty) - Managing Course Quotas
This article explains how to manage course quotas in Blackboard Ultra, including how to view current usage.
Course Quota
All SIUE Blackboard courses have a 2 GB storage limit.
Viewing Course Quota Usage
To check the amount of storage space your Blackboard Ultra course is currently using:
- In your Blackboard Ultra course, navigate to the Course Content area and click the plus sign (+).
- Click on Content Collection.

- Click on Browse Content Collection.
- In your Content Collection area, you will see your course files and available storage quota for your course:

Managing Course Content to Stay Within Quota
Consider these strategies to manage your course content and stay within your allocated quota:
- Remove Unnecessary Files: Delete old or redundant files from your Content Collection that are no longer needed in the course, such as duplicate files and old export folders.
- Compress Large Files: Use compression software (e.g., ZIP) to reduce the size of large files before uploading them. Specifically, reduce the file size of PowerPoint presentations.
- Link to External Resources: Instead of uploading large video or audio files, store videos and audio in YuJa and link them in your Blackboard course. Additionally, store files in Microsoft OneDrive and link them in the Blackboard course for student access. OneDrive is a good alternative for large multimedia files (anything over 100 MB).
- Optimize Images: Reduce the file size of images by compressing them or resizing them to appropriate dimensions before uploading.
