Blackboard (Faculty) - Turnitin: Delete Student Papers from Turnitin's Respository
This document provides an overview of how to request a student paper be deleted in Turnitin
Downloading students' papers is a good practice, especially at the end of the semester, to preserve the grading record offline.
Access Turnitin Assignment Inbox
- Navigate to the Coursework area and folder where the assignment link resides.
- Click on the Turnitin Assignment link. The Assignment Inbox will open.
Request to Delete an Individual Paper
- Click on the three dots in the student's row.
- From the menu, select Request permanent deletion. NOTE: You will have 30 days to reverse this request. After 30 days, the deletion is PERMANENT and cannot be undone.
- By clicking the Continue button, you are sending a request to the Turnitin Administrator to delete this paper. This deletion will include the file, any grading, and the Similarity Report. The Tii administrator can recover the deleted paper up to 30 days! After that, the paper is not recoverable. Click Cancel to go back. Click Continue if to complete the request.
- Review the information and confirm it is the correct paper/student. Click the "Reason for Deletion" drop down box and select an option. Then click Confirm at the bottom of the window.
- If everything is correct, type DELETE in the box. Then click Confirm at the bottom of the window.
- A delete icon will appear next to the student's name in the Assignment In Box.
- The deletion may take up to a week, sometimes longer. Once the paper is deleted, you will be notified in Turnitin. You will not receive an email about the deletions. Return to the Turnitin Assignment Inbox and look for a red dot next to the notification bell. Click on the Notification icon. The menu will expand to see important messages (including system outages).
- You will receive a notification when the deletion request is received by Turnitin. You will also receive a notification when the deletion is complete.
