Blackboard (Faculty) - Turnitin Assignments: Create a Turnitin Rubric
This document provides an overview of creating a Turnitin rubric.
Blackboard rubrics and Turnitin Rubrics are not interchangeable. You cannot export a Blackboard rubric and import it into Turnitin. Both must be created from scratch.
Accessing the Rubric
From a Previously Made Turnitin Assignment
- Navigate to the Coursework area and folder where the assignment link resides.
- Click on the Turnitin Assignment link.The Assignment Inbox will open.
- Click on the Settings cog in the upper right corner
- Click on Optional Setting.
- Click on the checkbox for "Attach a Rubric"
If you have already created a rubric, click on "No Rubric" and select the rubric from the list.
If you need to create a rubric, click Launch Rubric Manager button.
While Creating a Turnitin Assignment
- Follow the instructions in the Create a Turnitin Assignment Knowledge Base article to begin.
- Click on Optional Setting.
- Click on the checkbox for "Attach a Rubric"
If you have already created a rubric, click on "No Rubric" and select the rubric from the list.
If you need to create a rubric, click Launch Rubric Manager button.
Creating the Rubric
- Click on the bullet icon and select Create new rubric.
- Name the Rubric by clicking on the text box and typing the name.
3. Select the Rubric Scoring at the bottom of the box.
The options are:
- Percentage - scale value for each column and weight your criteria rows using percentages
- Score - Enter any value for each rubric cell
- Qualitative rubric - a rubric that features standard feedback but no numerical scoring.
Criteria
Criterion are the standards that you will judge the paper.
- Click Criterion 1 to open the text box.
- Paste or type the desired category.
- Continue on until all criterion are filled out.
- If you need additional criterion, click the + at the top of the Criteria column.
Scales
Scales are the value of each criterion.
- Click on the Scale 1 to open the text box.
- Paste or type the scale. (e.g. Excellent, Good, Fair, Poor, etc.)
- Continue on until all scales are filled out.
- If you need additional scales, click the + to the right of the Scale row.
Description
- Click on the first cell to add a description. This will be viewed by both you and the student. Be as detailed as possible with these descriptions to assist the student in reaching their potential.
Save the Rubric
- Click Save at the bottom of the window to save the Rubric.
- Click Close at the bottom of the window to close the window.
