Blackboard (Faculty) - Tests, Surveys, and Pools: Edit Test Options and Questions

This document provides an overview of editing tests and survey questions.

Edit Test Options

You can edit the test options from the deployed link in a content area or folder. Navigate to the content area or folder with the link.

  1. Hover your mouse over the test link and click the drop-down menu.
  2. Select Edit Test Options from the drop-down menu.
  3. Make changes to the test options.
  4. Click Submit to save the changes.

Access the Test Canvas:

  1. From the Control Panel, click on Course Tools.
  2. Click on Test, Surveys, and Pools.
  3. Click on Tests (or Surveys).

OR

  1. Navigate to the content area or folder with the test link.
  2. Hover your mouse over the test link and click the drop-down menu.
  3. Select Edit Test from the drop-down menu.

Edit Questions

Identify the question to be edited.

  1. Hover your mouse over the question and click the drop-down menu.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. Make the necessary changes.
    Note: If students have taken the test and you change an answer, all the student's tests will be adjusted.
    You will not be able to add new answers once students have begun taking the test.
    You will be able to make textual changes (spelling, retype existing questions or answers, add feedback, etc).
  4. Click Submit and Update Attempts.

Add Questions

You cannot add questions to a test that has student submissions.

Identify the question to be edited.

  1. Hover your mouse over the question and click the drop-down menu.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. Click Create Question and select the type of question.
  4. Click Submit .

New questions will be added to the bottom of the test. If you wish to reorder the questions, hover your mouse over the far left edge of the question until a hashed bar appears. Click and hold you mouse over that hashed bar. Drag the question to the position you wish and drop the question in place.

Delete Questions

You CAN delete a question to a test that has student submissions.

Identify the question to be edited.

  1. Hover your mouse over the question and click the grey circle.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. Click the check box next to the question(s) you wish to delete.
  4. Click the Delete button at the top or bottom of the test canvas.
  5. A pop up window will appear confirming the deleting of the question(s). Once you click OK, the question(s) is/are deleted and can not be retrieved. 
  6. Click Submit to save the test.

Blackboard will regrade the submitted questions. If your test has 20 question worth 1 point each and you delete 1 question, your test will now be worth 19 points rather than 20 points.
